I listen to the John Deloney show on Apple Podcasts, and one of the best recommendations he gave a listener was to take a 30 day break from Social Media. She said it helped her so much she wasn’t sure she was going back.
I don’t know about never going back, but I definitely would like to go back with a healthier perspective. More light sharing and less doom scrolling.
So October is the month. I put all of my social media apps (facebook, Instagram and Threads) in my on hold spot on my phone. Then I decided to dust off the blog here as a possible place to once again share my thoughts.
Books have been bringing me a lot of happiness the past few years. I usually share a monthly cover collage of the books I have completed and share my ratings and reviews. Friends have mentioned how much they appreciate my posts, so I thought I would share my September 2025 books here.
π§π56 Days by Catherine Ryan Howard - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - my September pic for the read one book a month you already own 2025 challenge. I also paired audiobook with this one which had a great voice actor. Murder mystery thriller with an extra twist i did not expect and an ending that surprised me till it didn’t. Timeline jumping threw me off at times but otherwise interesting.
ππ§ Play Nice by Rachel Harrison ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - also paired audio with print. A mix of horror and family dysfunction that had a very creepy vibe. Main female character was a little annoying at times but fit the black sheep role put in her by family. As you learn more about her, the more you side with her.
Only complaint is it felt like the book just skirted the surface of true horror and didn’t go all in.
π The Little Italian Hotel by Phaedra Patrick ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - I’m a huge fan of this author, but have to say this wasn’t my favorite. I did really like the cast of quirky characters and the Italian setting. Each character had a story of heartbreak on why they joined Ginny on the trip and Edna’s was the most heartbreaking to me ❤️ I wasnt a big fan of Ginny at first but thought she made a brave if unexpected choice at the end.
π§ Everyone is Lying to You by Jo Piazza - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - entertaining page turner that delves into the world of influencers, tradwives and the ugliness of misogyny and abuse of power.
π§ You Wanna Be On Top by Sarah Hartshorne (memoir) - I thought it was a well written memoir about her time on the show with bits of her personal history mixed in where relevant. She stayed classy but honest.
π Beach Read by Emily Henry ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - not as good as Funny Story by the same author but has a sweet ending.
Anyway, here is to a happier and healthier tech life in October!
