WOYWW and a Layout!

Today for What's on Your Workspace Wednesday, I am showing you a side of my space you haven't seen yet.
Under the counter. Yes, it's not so neat under there, is it? Really, it doesn't always look like that. But I have a ton of stuff to sort through and projects to work on, and just no time to do it. I will get to it eventually. But right now, I just want to start making layouts with the August Scrapbooking from the Inside Out kit. I can't tell you the theme yet. That would be on August 1st :) But it is a good kit with lots of pretty product inside!
So the mess will wait and I will just step around it, or move it to the corner if it's really in my way:)

To visit other crafty spaces, you will want to go here. Julia's blog. She organizes our little, or should I say very large group! And I have to say it really is fun to visit so many wonderful, crafty people from all over the world :)

Also, since it is Wednesday, I must mention that I have a post up at Craft Your Nest.
I am doing a piece on how to stretch your kit alphabets.
This is one of my Scrapbooking From the Inside Out layouts featured on the CYN blog today that I haven't shared here yet...
I cut out the title at the top using an old stencil I had on hand. And I used my smallest circle punch to cut out the smaller letters at the bottom from a piece of patterned paper by October Afternoon.
The layout talks about my relationship with my son, and how I am so glad that even at ten years old, he still feels he can talk to me about things. He wants to talk to me! I better enjoy it while it lasts right? :)

Thanks so much for stopping by today, and I will be back on Friday with another layout!

  2. Thankfully I'm still enjoying "talk time" with my daughter too and she's 11. :) I love that you documented this. I never thought to do that. Thanks for the idea! I love the grid design on here and the fun, circular title.

  4. That is a nice little area to stash stuff away that you don't want to deal with! :) Love your layout - that's a special thing to document. I hope it lasts too and that the teen years are as kind as they can be!

  5. Hee...I have one of those perpetual "piles to put away". It occupies the second chair that goes with my table! Love your page. Great to document the wonderful conversations you have with your son. I think talkativeness has more to do with personality than with age, so maybe it will persist!

  6. Love your page and indeed the sentiment. I strongly believe that if we "keep at it" we can keep communication channels open with our teens. My son is 13 1/2yrs and we still manage a school "debrief" on a daily basis. I am fighting with his school over alot of things as I guess my son might be "unusual" in the amouint he tells me but it is worth it. Here's to many more years of chatting with our precious children. 10. I can totally relate to under the desk. I didn't even join in for WOYWW this week because my desk is buried, as is the floor, under stuff. I am actually in the process of purging and organizing after a paint job to the walls.

  15. I'm laughing about your desk :)

I think the best part about your layout is the meaning behind it. I bet having Evan talk to you lasts longer than you think :)

  16. Whoo hoo! Thanks for sharing your 'dirty secret' with us. That made me smile. I can't put my legs under my desk either, ever, at least you can sometimes. I will have to check out the piece on how to get more out of your leftover letters. It seems a same to pitch them, surely there must be some use for them. Great layout and a great story to go with it. So special that your son still talks to you. He may continue on since you raised him that way. Although, sullen teen, that does happen.

  17. Wonderful layout. I too have started stockpiling under my desk. I keep reassuring myself that when my new studio is finished next month I will go through everything and have so many fabulous items to work with! Happy WOYWW #125 Robin Panzer Art Studio 33

  18. Thanks for visiting the Doodly Birds and the school room. Stay tuned for further details.
It's very brave of you to show us underneath your desk and I am very impressed with the top of it. Very organised. Just as I like it.

  19. My son loves to talk to me about anything and everything and he's 16, so don't worry. My 19year old, on the other hand, is tighter than a clam shell and always has been :)
You're a brave bunny showing the underside of your desk - mine isn't fit for public consumption, lol!!

  21. What a beautiful creative space you have, Mary Jo! Gorgeous view out over the trees. It certainly looks like a real tree house! Love your "worktops" and drawers and cupboards - it all looks so tidy and organised.

I love what you wrote about your son. Let's hope the lovely relationship you both have lasts through the turbulence of the teen years!

Thanks for your visit. Yes, do look into Dylusions sprays - they are totally awesome! I've been coveting them for some while now, and finally succumbed, and do not regret it!

    Happy WOYWW,

  23. Love that story, I have an 11 year old daughter and she still talks to me but they grow up so fast. Enjoy it while you can, I hardly see my two 21 year olds, they are always going out the door and no time to talk.
It's nice to see that you have some mess under there, too much neatness is not healthy :)
    Have a great week.

  24. That is a great view of your desk! Mine often looks like that. I usually move it out of the way, but I'm sure one day I'll have enough time to put it all away!

I love the story you scrapped. It is so nice that Evan is able to share and talk with you, and that you have it documented!

  27. Lovely to see a layout - and nice to know that while your headed desk may be tidy, the "real" desk (and floor!) and more crafty-covered.
