One Life

I haven't been able to stop thinking about the tragic shooting that occurred in Newtown last Friday. My heart is so heavy for all of those families who lost loved ones. For everyone involved.
It just seems so hard to understand how something like this could happen.

I came across this photo on Facebook along with the following quote.

"When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.' To this day, especially in times of 'disaster,' I remember my mother’s words, and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers - so many caring people in this world." -- Mister Rogers

And I tell myself that what matters is remembering there are more good people in the world than not. There are people who love and care. People who will stand up for what is right and protect those who cannot protect themselves. And while it may seem that light has been dimmed for a bit, we need to hold onto the thought that we should not give in to the darkness. Because that is what the darkness wants. For us to turn our back on the light.

I was listening to "One" by U2 last night and the lyrics hit home with me again. And I thought of this layout I had created.

"One life with each other. Sisters, Brothers. One life but we're not the same. We have to carry each other. Carry each other"

And this is a time to carry each other. Lift each other up and hold tight to the goodness. God bless!

  1. A really beautiful post Mary Jo. It is so hard not to have a heavy heart, even as far away as I am, I have been overwhelmed by sadness at these tragic events. But you are so right, there are many more good people in the world than not. Your layout is beautiful and U2's song is such a good one. Hugs, Anne x

  13. I love that quote. I know I have been hugging, touching, feeling Sophie and Fynn so much these past few days. Like I think it is fleeting - their prescence.

  14. I am still reeling at what happened. Such a tragic, senseless act. I burst into tears every time they show a photo of one of the children now that the funerals have started. Love your layout. This is a great way to look at it - we just need to hold onto and lift each other up. It's all we can do!

  17. This gave me the chills. I am feeling the same way, and it's especially personal to me because I am a teacher and my husband is a principal. We deal with young, innocent, trusting children all day. On top of that, my nephew lives in Newtown. Thankfully, his 2 young boys are 3 and 5, and not yet in public school, but this has impacted their lives in so many ways. The sorrow all around them, the intrusive media, the loss of innocence, the tragedy of losing friends....it goes on and on. So sad.
Thanks for stopping by my guest designer spot.

  18. I can't stop thinking about it either. I was helping out in my son's 2nd grade class today & just listening to their sweet little voices and silly little jokes. All I could think about were those precious little ones in CT and how they were nearly the same age. I just can't imagine the heartache those Moms and Dads are facing this holiday season.
What a lovely layout-great song for this moment.
