I don't know if you are like me, but I was a little late to the misting bandwagon.
I am not typically a *messy* scrapper.
I like things neat, organized and *clean*. Which surprises people sometimes when they find out I was a preschool teacher and used to deal with all kinds of fun messy, messes :)
Mists are definitely messy.
And every once in a while I like to step out of my comfort zone to try something new.
So I challenged myself last year to start using mists a little more on my projects.
Going back through my work from the last year, I was surprised at how many times I did actually use mists.
Today I want to share with you a few of my projects using just basic misting or droplets on your background.
My first layout...
"Got Mud" has some brown mist sprayed lightly at points around the yellow cardstock. I wanted to portray the "dirty" feeling of mud and thought the brown mist would be a good choice. If you click on the photo, you might be able to see it a little better, but the largest section of mist is around the brown and green chipboard embellishment.
For "Nature is a Great Place to Do Watercolors", I had the same idea. I wanted to portray the feeling of using watercolors, so I lightly sprayed some blue and yellow mist in the upper left and bottom right corners. One thing I have learned is that I was pretty heavy handed with mist in the beginning. But after practicing a few times, I learned that light, brief, gently sweeping strokes with my wrist made for the best misting :)
Then I discovered the white mist by Studio Calico!
For "Can I Paint My Room?" I once again sprayed the background, but then decided to add a few droplets to go with the theme of "painting". As far as droplets go, for me the best way to do it is to remove the actual sprayer component, hold the nozzle in your hand and tap lightly on the tubing to release the mist. I felt like I had more control this way! It was a nice little tip I learned by watching Shimelle Lane's Glitter Girl video "The Mists of Magnitude" at 2p's in a Bucket. You can see it here. Just scroll down a bit and you can see where the video starts. I think there are some great tips in it!
I also decided to use droplets of white on "Happy Winter" when after completing it, the layout still felt like it was missing something. I thought the droplets would add a little more visual interest.
If you are new to misting, or have just been wanting to use the mists you have more, misting on your base or using droplets is one of the best places to start! I would love to see any projects you make using those techniques. So please link them on this blog post, whether it is in a gallery or on your blog, and I will be happy to come visit and leave a comment! :)
I will be back on Wednesday featuring one of my ScrapGal projects that uses droplets in colors other than white :) Plus I will be talking about replacing stamp ink and paint with mists on your projects.
Happy Misting!! :)
Great projects! I have only recently used misting on a few pages. Most of the time I just don't want to deal with the mess!
ReplyDeleteI'm really late on the misting bandwagon since I still haven't bought any. They scare me. I love the paint layout with the white mist. And I really like the snow layout with the white splatters. I really want to start playing around with mists.
ReplyDeleteI love me some misting!!! And, I love what you have done here :)
ReplyDeleteThese are great projects and tips! I have a lot of mists, but rarely use them. I think it's time to try them out!! :)
ReplyDeleteI was lateto the misting bandwagon too. I hate to be messy too but I am really enjoying messing things up a bit. Great layouts!
ReplyDeleteGood job with the misting! I especially like the white on black.
ReplyDeleteGood job with this post! I loved seeing the layouts and look forward to Wednesday's post about using paints and inks because that is what I do and I want to see what tips you have.
ReplyDeleteGreat tutorials!
ReplyDeleteThese are great! I love mists, but I honestly don't use them as often as I should. I did pull some out this weekend, though!

ReplyDeleteawesome job!!! i am so addicted to misting!!!
ReplyDeleteLove your layouts and misting techniques!
ReplyDeleteAwesome post, MJ! I can SO relate because I came to the "misting party" late, too. LOL I have a post up on my blog today about one of my "adventures in misting". It's a pretty funny story and I hope you'll come by and read it. I really stepped out of MY comfort zone. I'm SO not a messy artist. I don't even like to get my hands messy.
ReplyDeleteLOVE ALL of your layouts!!
Thanks for leaving the comments about the mists on my blog. Yes, I did use Tattered Angels and it curled something awful. I will definitely try the Studio Calico for sure! I could NOT get the "droplets" no matter what I did. They just turned into "spatters".
ReplyDeleteYou do a nice job with this misting -- something I haven't ventured into yet.
ReplyDeleteYou really did a great job -- I love misting and do it all of the time. :)
ReplyDeleteI really like all of these. You have a great style. I love the clean and simple approach, but I must say: the misting looks good!
ReplyDeleteLove all of your Lo's!!
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful and so creative!!
Love the fun pictures!!
Thanks so mcuh for the juice tip!!
Love the mists! Yes, I was late too. And even now that I have quite a few, I still don't use them that much because everything has to be covered up or I need to spray in a box. Too much thinking. But I do love the look of just a few drops here and there. Looks awesome on the darker back ground in the painting layout. Perfect accent for that page. :)
ReplyDeleteI came late into the misting game too. I still have issues with it at times but I try!! Your work is fabulous! I love your layouts and that you branched out and tried it!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHope your Tuesday is teriffic!
