*Still Going Strong*

Back in January I talked about my goals and resolutions to have a healthier and happier 2013!
You can see that first post right here!
I am happy to say that I was successful with my first goal of not eating fast food in January.
Just McDonald's on the one school half day when we met friends for lunch. And I had a salad!
This is a page from a little mini album I made a year or two ago titled "Get Healthy, Get Fit". It is actually a scraplift of a mini I saw in one of the scrapbook magazines. Just some little reminders of things I can do to have a healthier lifestyle.
Because I think it is important for me and my family.
And because I am at a point in my life where I am ready!

So for February, I have set two goals along with continuing to avoid fast food. I'm not saying I will never have fast food again. But really trying to limit the stuff to once a month. And if I make it through a whole month without eating it, great!

But now for my first February goal...
I will be in bed no later than 11pm on school nights. And for me, it is a challenge because I love to stay up late. Sometimes 12:30 or 1am. But it's really, really starting to wear me down. And I have failed at this in the past. But for some reason, I am ready. So far in February, I have made it to bed every night by 11pm. And that is saying a lot! A friend of mine just told me yesterday that she had read a report by a doctor that said if you have a choice between exercising and getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep, go for the sleep. It really is so beneficial to your health!
That said though, goal number two for the month...
ok, I know it says every day, but that was then and this is now. I will be happy with five days per week. I have a better success rate when I allow myself a day or two to slack. And actually today was supposed to be a slack day and I chose to do yoga instead. So far in February I have exercised five out of six days. I like to mix it up, too. I jog/walk or ride my bike outdoors when the weather is nice. But I also like to do yoga, pilates, and cardio/strength training videos indoors. The key is changing it up frequently so I don't get bored. And it is such a good influence on the kids, too. When they see me exercise, often times they want to join in. Even if it's only for a little bit. And they know that mommy exercises to be healthy. Not to lose weight or be skinny.

So I am feeling good right now and am on track. Just one month, one week and one day at a time :)

I will have more pages from my mini to share as I set new goals in the upcoming months.
But for now I also want to share a post I have up on the Craft Your Nest blog. Some Valentine's Day inspiration and a few free printables. Make sure to say hi if you stop by over there :)
And have a great weekend!

  5. Great goals and congratulations for being successful for January. That sleep one is soooo difficult....I vow to get more sleep as well, but there is always some project or blog post calling my name. Projects are pulling me in one direction - my pillow the other direction. It is a tough battle! Good luck, and I hope it continues to go well for you!

  10. Hi Mary Jo, your post today is brilliant and one I wish I could follow along with too. My biggest problem is going to bed too late, so I am taking a leaf from your book and will try - really hard........ Thank you for the lovely comment you left on my blog, much appreciated. Hugs, Anne x

  11. Well done on reaching your January goals. I am sure you will be as successful in February. You seem "in the zone" with your commitments.
The rearly to bed one is wise but so hard to do. I am up till 1 or even 2 am most nights.

  16. Good for you!! This is so awesome that you are documenting your journey!! I used to go to bed at 10 every night (I get up at 3:30AM -- so 10 is way too late for me!)... and last year I decided that I was tired of being tired .... so I have changed my ways and go to bed between 8:30 and 8:45 now ... so much better for me!!!

  20. WTG!! For staying on track!!
IKWYM Im eating more fruits and veggeis too and not eating out as much!
I still need to exercise more so I'm not doing as well on that but mainly because I have this paper file project I'm working on. It is taking so much time. I'm almost down and then I can start exercising more hopefully 5 times a week instead of 2x a week.
    Love your mini!!!

  21. Good for you Mary Jo! LOL, I just had a little sarcastic sentence on my blog saying I was banning healthy food from our house! I've been making too much comfort food! Anyhow, I think it's great you're putting your goals on paper. It's one thing to think them but to actually put them down on paper and blog about them helps keep the accountability (to yourself) going strong. I am such a night owl too - 11 pm would be very difficult for me but I know I would feel better the next day.

  22. YOu are a good example! well done for sticking to your goals, I like that you are setting just a couple of things to do for a month - mind if I steal that idea? also that little mini is a great reminder, mind if I steal that too?
I am a fresh air addict but the last month has been so busy that I haven't been out walking or jogging and now I really feel it.... the sun is out today, so I'll get right back to it today!!

    1. I actually lifted the mini idea myself! I thought it would me a good little reminder.
It is so much harder in the winter to exercise because I do like to get out and walk or jog a few days a week.

  23. Love that mini! Great ideas here Mary Jo! Taking it one step at a time, knowing your own limitations and working with your need for variety. Sounds like you are really going to stick with it - good luck!! :)
